Grandma's Living Room
We often hear the stories of “grandma’s living room”. The room in grandma’s house where children are not permitted to be in without an adult and where every piece of furniture was placed so perfect one does not dare disturb.
The closest I come to this idea was in Grandma Helen’s living room. Grandma Helen is not really my grandma but one of the many grandparents I have adopted as my own.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say I was not permitted in her living room but I knew I had to be extremely careful there.
Grandma Helen’s living room looked as though it had been completely transported from the palace of Versailles. Mind you most of the time I spend there was nearly 15 years ago when I was a child and at the time everything seemed to be on a grand scale.
I didn’t yet know of the grand Palace of the Sun King then, however as I compare my childhood memories and my more recent studies of the world’s greatest architecture the living room can only be described as follows;
Magnificent, gilded Rocco, Tapestries, Figurines, Mirrors, Glass, High walls and elaborate woodwork, Music, Art and a place of Culture.
Thank you Grandma Helen for opening my eye to classic French design at such a young age….if only in my own eyes.
